“One of the Best Films of 2019… it’s immediately clear that Lucy Coleman is one of the most exciting new voices in Australian cinema” - The Curb
"Hot Mess is a warm and wonderful work from a very exciting new voice in Australian comedy.” - Film Ink.
In what is easily the funniest Australian film of the year, aspiring playwright, uni-dropout, and all-round fuck up Loz (inimitable comedienne Sarah Gaul) sets her sights on a sweet-seeming divorcé, hoping that an upswing in her dating life will remedy all her other failures. Loz is twenty-five and could have a promising career as a playwright ahead of her. The only problem is her artistic ambitions have stalled, her friendships are strained, and her love life has is non-existent. Meanwhile everybody around her seem to be more successful in relationships, in work, even in sex. And then she meets Dave (Marshall Campbell). Soon, she learns just how hard it is to balance new relationships with her small circle of friends—the only people willing to put up with this hot mess. Writer/director Lucy Coleman makes her feature debut with this ribald, distressingly relatable slacker comedy you won’t want to miss.
